A photographer’s reviews do the selling that a portfolio can’t. Anyone can pick their best 30 shots, but only past clients can say what it was like to work together. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found that 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, and 74% only care about reviews from the last three months.
Photographer review examples show how to describe the parts of the job a stranger can’t see: the planning call, how comfortable you felt, how the day ran, and whether the photos arrived when promised. Below are 20 samples, fill-in templates, and the rules that keep a review from being removed. For samples across other businesses, see our good reviews examples.
What Makes a Photographer Review Good
- It covers the process. Mention communication before the shoot, punctuality, direction and posing, and whether you felt at ease.
- It’s about the photos too. Say whether the style matched what you saw in the portfolio, how many photos you got, and how long delivery took compared with the promise.
- It’s specific about the occasion. A wedding review helps wedding clients, and a headshot review helps professionals. Name the kind of shoot.
- It’s honest about value and flaws. Mention pricing clarity, the contract, and any delay, and keep your stars aligned with your words.
- It respects privacy. Skip guests’ names, and think before you describe children or home interiors in a public review.

Wedding photographers
★★★★★ She learned our schedule in advance and kept the timeline moving without making us feel rushed. The candid shots of our families are the ones we love most, and we got the gallery in three weeks, as promised.
★★★★★ Detailed. We booked after a planning call where he asked about our families and what mattered most. On the day, a rain delay pushed the ceremony back an hour, and he rearranged the portrait list calmly. The gallery arrived in 12 days with a short list of favorites first. We’d recommend him to couples who want relaxed, natural photos, not heavily posed ones.
★★★★☆ Wonderful photos and a calm presence. The contract took a few emails to clarify the number of edited images, but the final gallery was exactly what we expected.
★★★★☆ Detailed. The couple portraits and the ceremony shots were beautiful, and the second shooter caught moments we missed. Four stars because the reception lighting made some photos grainy, and the album took longer than quoted. He apologized and kept us updated.
★★★☆☆ The photos were nice, but delivery took nine weeks instead of the six in the contract, and I had to chase for updates. Good photographer, but I’d like better follow-through.
Family and portrait photographers
★★★★★ She made my restless toddler laugh within minutes and never made us feel like we were falling behind. The outdoor location she suggested had great light, and the photos looked natural.
★★★★★ Detailed. We booked a mini session for family photos and she sent a short guide on what to wear and when to arrive. She directed us gently, with simple prompts like “walk toward me and laugh.” The gallery had 40 edited images in a week, and the online gallery let relatives download copies. The print quality was excellent.
★★★★☆ Lovely photos and a patient approach with kids. The session started 15 minutes late, and I’d have liked a few more group shots.
★★★☆☆ The photos were fine, but several looked more heavily edited than the portfolio. We asked for adjustments, and she corrected two of them.
Headshots and personal branding
★★★★★ I dreaded being photographed, but she put me at ease, showed me the shots on her screen as we went, and delivered retouched files in two days. Great for my profile and my agency’s website. Agents may find our real estate agent review examples useful too.
★★★★☆ Professional and efficient, and the headshots look sharp. The studio was hard to find, so allow extra time.
★★★☆☆ The headshots were good, but extra retouching was an add-on I didn’t expect. Clear pricing upfront would have made this a four-star review.
Event photographers
★★★★★ Corporate event. He blended in, captured the speakers and the networking, and sent a same-day preview of 20 photos for our social media. Everything was delivered on time, with a clear usage license.
★★★★★ Detailed. We hired her for our nonprofit’s annual dinner. She met our coordinator an hour early, got the shot list, and stayed unobtrusive through the program. We received an online gallery within a week and permission for web and print use. She also took group photos of our volunteers, which meant a lot to them. See our good review restaurant examples if you’re also reviewing the venue.
★★★★☆ Birthday party. Fun and friendly with the kids. Several indoor photos came out dark, but the outdoor ones were great.
★★★☆☆ Conference. The photographer was professional, but the gallery arrived two weeks after the date we needed for the newsletter. The photos themselves were good.
Maternity and graduation sessions
★★★★★ Maternity. She suggested poses that were comfortable and flattering, took breaks when I needed them, and offered several outfit changes. The edited photos arrived in 10 days.
★★★★☆ Maternity. Kind and professional. Sunset was a little earlier than planned, so a few photos were rushed, but the final gallery was lovely.
★★★★★ Graduation. My son usually hates cameras, but the photographer joked with him and kept it short. We got natural photos on campus and a quick turnaround before the party.
★★★★☆ Graduation. Great shots and an easygoing style. Parking at the location was hard, so I’d arrive early.

Do’s and Don’ts, With Platform Rules
| Do | Don’t |
|---|---|
| Write about your own shoot and what you received. | Review a photographer you work with, own, or compete with. |
| Match your stars to your words. | Accept a discount, print credit, or free session for a review. |
| Edit your review if the photographer resolves a problem. | Post the same text from several accounts, or copy a sample. |
- Google’s policy requires reviews to reflect a genuine experience and prohibits conflicts of interest and incentivized reviews. Reviews can’t be anonymous, and you don’t need to be a Local Guide.
- Helpful vs. fake: helpful reviews describe a real shoot with specifics. Fake ones aren’t based on a real experience, are paid for, or come from several accounts.
- The FTC’s 2024 rule (effective October 21, 2024) bans buying fake reviews and incentives conditioned on a positive or negative sentiment.
- Photos in reviews: a photo you took of the setup or location is fine. The photos the photographer delivered are usually their copyrighted work, so check your license before posting them, and avoid showing guests or children who haven’t agreed to be shared.
- Edit or delete: you can change your review later from Your contributions in Google Maps.
For Photographers: Encouraging Detailed, Compliant Reviews
- Ask at the right moment. The best time is when the client sees their photos, so include your direct review link or QR code with the gallery email. Our guide to how to ask customers for reviews covers timing and wording.
- Ask every client. Don’t screen for the happy ones, which counts as review gating under Google’s policy.
- Don’t tie anything to the review. Never make gallery delivery, prints, or discounts depend on one. Google prohibits incentives, and the FTC bans incentives conditioned on sentiment.
- Don’t script it. Google says merchants must not request specific content. Share a neutral how-to guide instead.
- Reply to every review. A short, personal reply shows future clients you care, and it helps even when the review is a three or four.
FAQ: Photographer Reviews
How long should a photographer review be?
Two to five sentences is plenty. Add more only when you have details a future client can use.
Can I post the photos I received in my review?
Check your contract first, since the photographer usually owns the copyright. Skip images that show other people who haven’t agreed.
Should I mention the price?
If it helps, yes. Say what was included and whether the pricing was clear, rather than just whether it was “cheap” or “expensive.”
Can I edit or delete my Google review later?
Yes. Find it in Your contributions and choose Edit review or Delete review.
Do I have to be a Local Guide?
No. Anyone signed in to a Google Account can post, and Google doesn’t pay reviewers.
Is Google My Business the same as Google Business Profile?
Yes. Google renamed it. Clients review through Google Maps and Search, and photographers manage the listing in Google Business Profile.
